Christine A., 18

Christine is the firstborn in her family and lives with her grandparents and aunts in a modest three-room mud-walled house. She is currently a Form 3 student and relies on her grandparents, who are peasant farmers, for support. In her free time, Christine enjoys practicing how to plait hair, and she hopes to become a police officer in the future. Christine shared that she initially fell ill and went to a nearby facility for treatment. During routine tests, she was informed that she was pregnant. She disclosed the news to her grandparents, who encouraged her to start attending ANC clinics. She managed to attend six visits, each requiring her to walk more than two hours to the clinic and another two hours back home. On the day she developed severe stomach pains, she initially assumed they would subside. Later that night, her water broke, and she was rushed to Ambira Sub-County Hospital. There, she was diagnosed with a term pregnancy in breech presentation, and the baby was in distress. She was therefore referred to Siaya County Referral Hospital. At Siaya, the fetal distress was confirmed, and an urgent delivery was deemed necessary to get a healthy baby

Christine was wheeled into theatre due to emergency surgery due to breech presentation. Her child was safely born , and the uterus closed. She was admitted for post surgery, management where she she was administered oral sips, ceftriaxone ,morphine, brufen among other drugs. A call to Christine revealed that she was well healed and was going about her life as usual

Following timely intervention with emergency caesarean section, the prognosis for both mother and baby is good, with expected favorable outcomes under proper postoperative and neonatal care.
