Trevor is the third-born child in a family of three. He is a PP1 pupil at a rural junior school and enjoys playing with his siblings at home. Trevor dreams of becoming a pilot in the future. His mother is the sole breadwinner of the family and runs a small-scale business that earns an approximate monthly profit of KES 2,500, which she uses to support the household. The family fetches their drinking water from a borehole, reflecting their modest living conditions. Trevor began to experience symptoms of illness, including high fever, persistent vomiting, and general body weakness over a period of two days. Due to financial constraints, the family struggled to raise money for medical care. As his condition worsened, Trevor became weak and lethargic, unable to play or eat normally. His persistent high fever and repeated vomiting raised concern that his condition was life-threatening and required urgent medical attention. Fortunately, a community volunteer informed them about Helpster Charity, which supports vulnerable children with treatment and medical management at Mechimeru Health Centre. Following this guidance, the family took Trevor to the health facility under the Helpster Charity program, where he received the necessary medical attention despite their financial limitations.

Trevor was treated for septicemia with immediate hospitalization, where he received intravenous broad-spectrum antibiotics, IV fluids, and close monitoring of vital signs and organ function. Blood tests and cultures were used to identify the infection source and guide targeted antibiotic therapy. Supportive care was provided to stabilize blood pressure and prevent organ failure. With timely treatment, Trevor’s infection was brought under control, his symptoms improved, and he gradually recovered without major long-term complications.

With prompt treatment, Trevor is expected to recover well. Early use of antibiotics and hospital care can stop the infection, prevent organ damage, and allow him to return to a normal, healthy life with little to no long-term impact. If septicemia is left untreated, the condition can rapidly become life-threatening. The infection may lead to organ failure, permanent disabilities, developmental complications, or death. Without treatment, the prognosis is very poor.
