Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?
When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About infections
In a child with septicemia (sepsis), the main health problem is a severe, body-wide infection where bacteria (or their toxins) have entered the bloodstream and triggered an overwhelming immune response. The child develops a systemic inflammatory reaction that can rapidly lead to high fever or low body temperature, poor feeding, lethargy, fast breathing, rapid heart rate, and poor circulation. As the infection progresses, it may cause low blood pressure, organ dysfunction (such as lungs, kidneys, or brain), shock, and even death if not treated promptly. Early recognition and urgent medical care are critical.

Background
Bravin is a one-year-old child from a family of three. His mother runs a small-scale business that earns an approximate monthly income of KES 2,500, which she uses to sustain the family. They live in a single-room rental house and fetch their drinking water from a borehole. For two days, Bravin developed symptoms including high fever, refusal to feed, and general body weakness. Due to financial constraints, his mother was unable to take him to the hospital for medical care. As his condition worsened, Bravin became critically ill, grunting in pain while his mother desperately tried to reduce his fever through tepid sponging. With no money and limited knowledge of what else to do, she felt helpless as she struggled to care for her sick child. Fortunately, a volunteer from Helpster Charity informed the family about free medical services available at Mechimeru Health Centre. Encouraged by this information, Bravin’s mother took him to the hospital, where he received urgent medical treatment.
Medical history
Bravin was treated urgently for septicemia with intravenous antibiotics, fluids, and supportive care, with close monitoring of his vital signs, organ function, and response to treatment. He responded well, the infection was successfully controlled, and his overall condition improved sufficiently for discharge. A follow-up phone call with his caregiver confirmed that Bravin is doing well at home and continues to recover without any reported complications.
Prognosis
If treated promptly and appropriately, septicemia can be controlled, and the Bravin has a good chance of recovery. Early treatment significantly reduces the risk of long-term complications, and will allow Bravin to return to normal growth and development with ongoing medical follow-up as needed.
