Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?
When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About pulmonology
Pneumonia in a child is an acute infection of the lungs where the small air sacs (alveoli) fill with pus and fluid, making it difficult and painful to breathe. It is the leading infectious cause of death in children under five worldwide. Bronchopneumonia is the inflammation of the lung tissue caused by infective organisms which can be either bacteria, virus, fungi or sometimes atypical organisms. It presents with symptoms of cough, fever, shortness of breath etc.

Background
Abdullahi is a 2-year-old calm child, doesn't like strangers, always wants to be with his mother. Mother is not gainfully employed and father is a petty trader. Abdullahi was presented with complaints of runny nose, cough, fever and occasional shortness of breath. On examination, he was irritable and febrile with a temperature of 38.2°C. There was widespread crepitations heard on chest auscultation. He was diagnosed with bronchopneumonia and received intravenous antibiotics and supportive care.
Medical history
Abdullahi was brought to our facility with complaints of runny nose, cough, fever and occasional shortness of breath. After proper evaluation, he was diagnosed with bronchopneumonia. He had his complete dosages of parenteral antibiotics and analgesics. As the treatment progressed, he responded well as evidenced by improvement of his admitting symptoms. He was then discharged home with oral medications to complete his recovery and return to his normal premorbid condition.
Prognosis
We generally view pneumonia in this child as a serious but highly treatable condition, However, the risk of serious complications like pleural effusion or respiratory failure remains significant in infants under two, necessitating close monitoring. The prognosis is excellent for healthy children who receive prompt antibiotics or supportive care. With appropriate, adequate and timely administration of antibiotics and other supportive medications and interventions, patients do recover well from bronchopneumonia. However, any delay or inadequate treatment can lead to serious complications which sometimes can be life threatening.
