Ibrahim is a two-year-old boy, the fourth-born in a family of four children. He is normally a strong, active child who enjoys playing with other children whenever he is well. Two days before presentation, Ibrahim began to feel unwell, developing repeated vomiting and frequent episodes of diarrhoea. Due to financial constraints, his family was unable to take him to a health facility promptly. As is common in young children, his condition deteriorated rapidly. By the time a community health volunteer visited the household during routine home visits, Ibrahim was in a very critical state. He was severely dehydrated, weak, and had become floppy and lethargic, showing signs of exhaustion and reduced responsiveness. The community health volunteer immediately recognized the seriousness of his condition and rescued him, rushing him to Awasi Catholic Mission Health Centre for urgent care after informing the family about Helpster Charity. At the time of referral, Ibrahim had persistent vomiting, multiple episodes of watery diarrhoea, and high fever, which had progressively drained his strength. His condition required emergency medical attention to stabilize him and prevent life-threatening complications related to severe dehydration.

IO was brought to the facility when his condition was worse, but after being seen by the doctors and treatment was started immediately. He responded positively to treatment and improved as days move on. Ibrahim has shown good recovery process

Ibrahim was diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis complicated by severe dehydration after presenting with repeated vomiting, frequent diarrhoea, high fever, and marked weakness. The delay in seeking medical care due to financial constraints led to rapid deterioration, placing him at high risk of shock and death. On admission, he required urgent fluid resuscitation, correction of electrolyte imbalance, treatment of the underlying infection, and close monitoring to stabilize his condition. With prompt and appropriate treatment, including intravenous fluids, continued rehydration, and supportive care, Ibrahim’s prognosis is good. Most children recover fully when severe dehydration is corrected early.
