Duke is a twelve-year-old boy living with his uncle, who works as an informal mechanic in the local jua kali sector to support his large family. Duke has been under his uncle’s care since he was very young. His single mother is unemployed and lives with her parents in the village, where poverty has made life extremely difficult. Duke enjoys playing football and dreams of becoming a mechanical engineer when he grows up. His education is sponsored by a charity organization dedicated to paying school fees for vulnerable and underprivileged children in the region. Duke had been in good health until five days prior to presentation, when he began experiencing persistent headache, high fever, and pain and dryness in his throat. His uncle bought some over-the-counter medication and painkillers, but the drugs were not taken in full doses due to financial constraints. Instead of improving, Duke’s condition progressively worsened. On the day he was brought to the facility, Duke was extremely weak and unable to eat his lunch at school. His teacher noticed that he could barely walk on his own, appeared lethargic, and struggled to stand or speak normally. Alarmed by his condition, the teacher escorted him to the health facility for urgent medical attention. The teacher had previously heard about Helpster Charity and informed Duke’s uncle about the organisation’s support for vulnerable children. When she contacted the uncle, he expressed deep concern, explaining that he had been unable to take Duke to the hospital due to lack of money and that this was why he had resorted to buying over-the-counter medication. Following this, Duke was admitted to the facility for further evaluation and treatment under the support of Helpster Charity.

Future was admitted and stayed three days in the ward being managed on ceftrixone injections and being given health education on frequent intake of water (room temperature) and avoidance of cold food. The aunt was educated on importance of adhering to prescribed medication because it was realized that he just buys medicine without consultation

Following the diagnosis of pharyngitis and severe tonsillitis, Duke is expected to improve with appropriate antibiotic therapy, pain management, and supportive care. The throat pain, fever, and difficulty swallowing will gradually reduce, and his strength and appetite are likely to return as the infection resolves.
