Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Saifan is a charming and lively four-month-old baby boy who lives with his parents and brother in a small, crowded tin-shed rental house. His father earns only 7,000 BDT per month, which is barely enough to cover rent, food, and daily expenses, leaving no savings for emergency medical treatment. After suffering from cough and cold for several days, his condition worsened into severe pneumonia with fever and breathing difficulty, causing great fear among his parents as they watched their little son struggle to breathe. Despite their dreams of seeing him grow up to become a successful doctor one day, the family cannot afford the cost of proper hospital care. If he does not receive urgent and complete treatment, the infection may rapidly worsen and become life-threatening, which is why they sought help from Narayanganj Poly Clinic and Helpster Charity after hearing about their support from community members.

Medical history

Saifan 4 month-old child, had been battling recurrent respiratory tract infections for the past few months, but this time, his condition worsened as he developed severe pneumonia. Despite multiple courses of antibiotics from local pharmacies, his health continued to decline, leaving him lethargic and in a toxic state. In desperate need of emergency hospitalization, he received critical care at Narayanganj Polyclinic, including oxygen therapy, nebulization with sulbutamol, ipratropium bromide, budesonide, and injectable antibiotics, along with hydrocortisone due to the seriousness of his condition. Saifan was admitted on 21/1/26, received treatment, and was discharged from the hospital on 25/1/26. Now, after receiving the care he needed, Saifan is doing well and has returned home, bringing joy back to his family. With tears of gratitude in their eyes, his parents said, "Thank you to Helpster Donors and Narayanganj Polyclinic ; we are forever grateful for your support!"

Prognosis

The doctor has advised immediate hospitalization with intravenous antibiotics and supportive therapy to effectively treat Saifan’s severe pneumonia. With timely and appropriate medical care, his infection can be controlled, his breathing will gradually improve, and he is expected to recover fully and continue his normal growth and development. Close monitoring in the hospital will help prevent complications and ensure his lungs heal properly. However, if left untreated, the infection may worsen rapidly, leading to severe respiratory failure or spread of infection throughout the body. In a young infant like Saifan, such complications can become life-threatening, making urgent treatment essential for his survival and healthy future.
