When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About infections
Osteomyelitis is a serious infection of the bone caused by bacteria. It can develop after an untreated wound or infection spreads to the bone, leading to persistent pain, swelling, pus discharge, fever, and destruction of bone tissue. If untreated, it can cause permanent damage and disability. Severe anaemia occurs when the body has very low levels of haemoglobin, reducing the amount of oxygen delivered to tissues and organs. It causes extreme weakness, fatigue, pale skin, dizziness, and reduced ability to fight infections, and can become life-threatening if not treated.

Background
Harry Omondi is a 13-year-old boy from Kisumu County who lives with both parents and his two sisters. He is in Grade Six and enjoys sports, especially athletics, and has an interest in electrical wiring, which he practices at home. Harry is a bright and helpful child who often assists his parents with household chores. However, he has been feeling embarrassed about a wound on his right forearm that has been oozing pus, causing him to hide his arm under a sweater and at times avoid going to school. He has a three-year history of swelling on the right forearm, which initially began as a small pustule that later burst, leaving a chronic wound that has continued to discharge pus. The family later learned about Helpster Charity during a meeting at the chief’s camp, where community members were informed about available support for children in need of medical care. They were given the contact of a volunteer and reached out for assistance. After speaking with the family and understanding Harry’s condition, the volunteer asked several questions and referred them to Africa Inuka Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. He was diagnosed with osteomyelitis of the right forearm and severe anaemia.
Medical history
The patent was presented in the facility with pain,pus and inability to move the hand above. The initial diagnosis was anaemia chronic osteomyelitis upon investigation the final diagnosis was anaemia chronic osteomyelitis. Treatment plan was Sequestrectomy which was done after and was successful. The patient was discharged and was given antibiotics to use. The OPD clinic was booked for treatment follow up which will be on 12/2/2026
Prognosis
Harry was diagnosed with chronic severe osteomyelitis, and the medical team recommended a sequestrectomy. A sequestrectomy is a surgical procedure that involves removing dead and infected bone tissue (sequestrum). This helps stop the spread of infection, allows healthy bone to heal, and prevents long-term complications such as deformity, chronic infection, or disability With surgical treatment, prolonged antibiotics, and close medical follow-up, Harry has a good chance of recovery and return to normal activities. He will require strict follow-up care and medication for approximately six months to ensure complete healing and prevent recurrence of the infection.
