Md. Abir Mia is a cheerful and polite 9-year-old boy who lives with his parents in a rural village of Gaibandha, where his father works as an auto driver earning about BDT 7,000 per month. This small income is barely enough to cover food, rent, and daily expenses for the three-member family, leaving no savings for the two-step surgery Abir urgently needs. Since birth, he has struggled with an abnormal urine passage, causing discomfort, frequent toilet visits, and embarrassment, yet he remains emotionally strong and dreams of continuing school and helping his parents in the future. His condition not only affects his confidence but also limits his participation in outdoor games with friends. If left untreated, he may develop repeated infections, worsening urinary problems, and long-term complications that could seriously affect his health and quality of life, which is why the family has sought support from Helpster Charity after learning about it through Helpster Volunteer Md. Abdul Hanif.

Md. Abir Mia has been diagnosed with distal penile hypospadias with chordee, a congenital condition requiring staged surgical correction.As per the treatment plan, two operations are required. The first stage surgery (orthoplasty) has already been successfully completed to correct the curvature of the penis. Abir is currently under follow-up observation and recovering well from this procedure.The second stage surgery (urethroplasty), which is necessary to reconstruct the urethra and ensure a normal urinary stream, will be performed after an appropriate healing period of approximately 6 months to 1 year.After completion of both surgeries, Abir is expected to achieve a normal urinary function, improved physical comfort, and a better quality of life. This will also help reduce the risk of future complications and support his normal growth, confidence, and daily activities.At this stage, since the first operation has been completed and the next procedure requires a longer waiting period, the case can be temporarily considered for closure until the second stage treatment is initiated.

Doctors have advised performing Abir’s corrective surgeries in a planned manner, starting with orthoplasty to correct the curvature of the penis, followed by urethroplasty after one month to reconstruct the urethra. With these treatments, Abir is expected to have a normal urinary stream, be able to empty his bladder completely, and experience relief from discomfort and frequent urination. Successful surgery will also improve the appearance of the penis, reduce psychosocial stress, and allow him to participate in normal daily activities and school life without embarrassment.If left untreated, Abir’s urinary problems may persist, leading to recurrent urinary tract infections, ongoing discomfort, difficulty in controlling urine, and potential long-term psychological effects due to abnormal appearance. Early and proper surgical intervention is therefore crucial for his physical health, hygiene, and overall quality of life.
