Amina Abubakar is an 18-year-old young woman living with her family along Lagos Street in Maiduguri. She is the first of seven siblings and supports her household by knitting and selling caps. Although she did not attend formal Western school, she has strong Islamic knowledge of the Qur’an and Sunnah, which guides her daily life. She remains resilient and determined to support her family and build a better future. She gradually developed persistent weakness, headaches, and repeated high fever with chills, along with body aches and reduced ability to carry out daily activities. She also experienced cough, nasal congestion, fast breathing, lower abdominal discomfort, irritation, and abnormal vaginal discharge. As her condition worsened, she became pale, exhausted, and unable to perform simple tasks. Due to her deteriorating health, she was taken to Nakowa Hospital, where she was admitted for close monitoring and medical care.

Amina Abubakar was admitted to the hospital after presenting with high fever, weakness, cough, and general body discomfort. Following medical examination and laboratory investigations, she was diagnosed with Acute Respiratory Illness, Severe Malaria, and a Vaginal Infection. Due to the seriousness of her condition, she was admitted for proper treatment and close medical observation. She was commenced on Tablet Cefixime 200mg twice daily for 5 days, Tablet Loratachine 10mg twice daily for 5 days, Lonart DS twice daily for 3 days for the treatment of malaria, and Paracetamol 500mg three times daily for 3 days to control fever and body pains. In addition, she received Injection Gentamycin 80mg stat, Intravenous Metronidazole 500mg stat, and Intravenous Ciprofloxacin 200mg stat to help combat the infections affecting her body. With prompt medical care and adherence to treatment, Amina responded well. Her fever subsided, her breathing improved, and the infections were successfully controlled. She regained strength and her overall condition stabilized, leading to her discharge from the hospital. With early hospital admission, proper medications, adequate rest, and good nutrition, Amina’s overall prognosis is good. The breathing-related infection is usually short-term and tends to improve within days once the airways settle, allowing her cough, congestion, and breathing discomfort to gradually resolve. The mosquito-borne infection, when promptly treated, typically clears without lasting effects, and her fever, body pains, and weakness are expected to reduce as her strength and blood level improve. The genital infection also responds well to appropriate care and hygiene, with symptoms such as irritation, discharge, and abdominal discomfort gradually disappearing. Because all three conditions occurred at the same time, they temporarily weakened her body and immune system, leaving her very tired and unable to function normally. However, with close monitoring and full compliance with medical care, she is expected to regain her energy, appetite, and normal daily activity. In the absence of complications, Amina is likely to make a full recovery and return to supporting herself and her family.
