Hajara Zakariya is a 6-year-old girl living with her poor parents and four siblings in a small, overcrowded home. She has never attended school due to financial constraints. Her father is a trader, and her mother is a housewife. Hajara spends her days helping with chores and caring for her younger siblings, yet remains gentle, hopeful, and dreams of becoming a teacher to help her family escape poverty. She was brought to the hospital in a critical condition after several days of worsening illness, marked by persistent high fever, chills, extreme weakness, cough, difficulty breathing, red and painful eyes, abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea. She became progressively frail, unable to eat, sit, or care for herself. Hajara Zakariya, a 6-year-old girl, was brought to the hospital in a very weak and serious condition. She was suffering from Upper Respiratory Tract Infection (URTI), which caused persistent coughing, nasal congestion, and difficulty breathing, making her constantly tired, restless, and unable to sleep or rest properly. She also had severe malaria, which caused high fever, chills, severe body aches, headaches, and extreme weakness, leaving her unable to play, eat, or even move comfortably. In addition, she had bacterial conjunctivitis, which made her eyes red, swollen, and painful, making it hard for her to see or rest. She was also affected by anemia, which caused paleness, extreme fatigue, and reduced strength, making her very weak and more prone to other infections. On top of this, she suffered from enteric fever, which led to prolonged fever, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and loss of appetite, further draining her body of essential nutrients and leaving her extremely frail. Due to the severity of her condition, she was admitted immediately for urgent care.

6year old Hajara Zakariya was admitted after being diagnosed with severe malaria, anaemia, enteric fever, and an upper respiratory tract infection. She received intravenous artesunate for severe malaria, ceftriaxone to treat enteric fever and the respiratory infection, iron and folic acid supplements for anaemia, paracetamol for fever, intravenous fluids, and other supportive medications. With close medical care, her fever subsided, her cough and breathing improved, her strength gradually returned, and she was able to eat and play again. Hajara was discharged in stable condition to continue her recovery at home. Hajara’s condition, though very serious when she was admitted, has a good chance of improving with proper care. Together, these illnesses left Hajara very weak, frail, and unable to care for herself. She could not help her mother at home, play with her siblings, or even sit up without assistance. Her small body was exhausted from fighting multiple infections at the same time, and her condition was serious enough that urgent hospital admission and intensive care were required to stabilize her, treat the infections, restore her strength, and prevent life-threatening complications. With the treatment she receives, her fever and weakness are expected to go down, her stomach pain and vomiting should stop, and she will gradually regain her appetite. Her cough and breathing difficulties will ease, and the irritation and swelling in her eyes should heal completely. Her low energy and paleness, caused by the weakness in her body, can improve with rest, good nutrition, and treatment, allowing her to regain strength slowly over time. Because her condition was very serious when she arrived, she will need careful follow-up and attention to make sure she continues to recover fully. With proper support, Hajara has a strong chance of getting back to her normal self, playing with her siblings, and eventually going to school to build a better future.
