Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?
When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About infections
Malaria is a serious, potentially fatal, parasitic disease transmitted to humans through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. It is most common in tropical and subtropical regions, caused primarily by Plasmodium parasites. Symptoms include fever, chills, headaches, and muscle aches, which can progress to severe anemia, seizures, or coma if not treated promptly. Enteric fever is a severe, systemic bacterial infection caused by Salmonella Typhi or Paratyphi bacteria, commonly known as typhoid fever or paratyphoid fever. It is characterized by high, prolonged fever, abdominal pain, and headache, typically spreading via contaminated food or water. It is a major health concern, especially in regions with poor sanitation, often requiring antibiotic treatment. Helminthiasis, commonly known as worm infestation, is a parasitic disease caused by helminths (worms) inhabiting the human body, particularly the intestines, liver, and other tissues. Common types include roundworms, tapeworms, and flukes, which are transmitted via contaminated soil, water, or undercooked food An upper respiratory tract infection (URI or URTI) is a contagious infection of the nose, throat, sinuses, or larynx, usually caused by viruses.

Background
Nasir Abdullahi is a 7-year-old boy, the third of five children, living with his parents and siblings in Gwange, Lagos Street. He comes from a very poor family and has never attended school due to financial hardship. He enjoys playing football and dreams of becoming a doctor. He presented with severe headache, high fever, nausea, vomiting, and persistent abdominal pain, which led to marked weakness, poor appetite, and pallor. Due to the severity of his condition, his parents brought him to Nakowa Hospital, where he was thoroughly examined and investigations confirmed a diagnosis of Malaria, Enteric Fever, Helminthiasis and URTI. He was admitted under the Helpster Charity Program for urgent treatment and close monitoring.
Medical history
7year old Nasir Abdullahi was admitted on 21st January 2026 with malaria, enteric fever, helminthiasis (worm infestation), and upper respiratory tract infection, presenting with fever, weakness, cough, and other symptoms affecting his health. He received treatment with antimalarial medication, antibiotics for enteric fever and respiratory infection, deworming medication, paracetamol for fever and pain, intravenous fluids, and supportive care to restore his strength. With close monitoring and proper treatment, Nasir’s fever reduced, his symptoms improved, and he gradually regained his energy and appetite. He was discharged in stable condition on 23rd January 2026 with medications and follow-up advice. His family sincerely thanks Helpster Charity for sponsoring his treatment and giving Nasir the opportunity to recover and continue hoping for a brighter future.
Prognosis
Nasiru was found to be suffering from multiple infections which included malaria, enteric fever, an upper respiratory infection, and helminthiasis, all of which were making his small body very weak and critically ill. These illnesses caused Nasir to have persistent high fever, severe headache, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, coughing, and fatigue, leaving him unable to play, eat properly, or even do simple daily activities. His body was also losing essential nutrients and strength, making him pale, frail, and at risk of further complications if not treated quickly. Nasiru can suffer complications if not treated, malaria can progress to life-threatening cerebral malaria, organ failure, and profound anemia, while enteric fever often leads to dangerous intestinal perforations, internal bleeding, or sepsis. Helminthiasis frequently causes chronic malnutrition and intestinal blockages, whereas untreated upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs) may spread to become pneumonia, sinusitis, or even meningitis. With prompt hospital care, proper medications, fluids, and nutrition, Nasir has a good chance of full recovery. His fever and infections can be controlled, his energy and appetite should return, and his body can regain strength over time. However, because he was very weak when admitted, his recovery will require careful monitoring, proper rest, and follow-up care to ensure he becomes fully healthy again.
