Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Ethan is a one-year-old baby living with his mother in a rural village. His mother is his sole caregiver and relies on a small-scale business that generates very little income, which is not enough to meet their basic needs such as food, healthcare, and daily living expenses. Ethan recently fell ill and was admitted to the hospital. Unfortunately, his mother is unable to meet the medical expenses due to her financial challenges. She is therefore seeking assistance from Helpster Charity to help cover the hospital bills and ensure her child receives the necessary treatment. Any support extended would greatly improve Ethan’s chances of recovery and help ease the financial burden on his mother. Ethan was brought to the hospital with a sudden onset of frequent vomiting and watery diarrhea, accompanied by fever, general body weakness, loss of appetite, and excessive crying. His condition quickly worsened, as he became increasingly weak, lethargic, and unable to feed. He appeared visibly ill, with reduced activity and signs of dehydration, raising concern for a serious underlying infection. On clinical examination and laboratory investigations, Ethan was diagnosed with septicemia and diarrhea, requiring urgent medical intervention and close monitoring.

Medical history

Mother brought the child in the facility with complains of; sudden onset of frequent vomiting accompanied with diarrhea loose stool, general body weakness, fever, los of appetite and crying a lot. On examination and laboratory investigation, he was diagnosed with septicemia and diarrhea. Was admitted for treatment and management for three days and responded well to medication and stabilized and discharged home on good condition.

Prognosis

Doctors would consider Ethan’s condition serious and potentially life-threatening, especially because: Septicemia means infection has spread into the bloodstream, which can affect multiple organs. Diarrhea increases the risk of dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, and worsening weakness. Infants have immature immune systems, making them more vulnerable to rapid deterioration. The doctor recommended: Immediate hospitalization Intravenous (IV) antibiotics to fight infection IV fluids to correct dehydration and maintain circulation Close monitoring of vital signs (temperature, breathing, heart rate) Laboratory tests to track infection and organ function Prognosis is good
