Four-month-old Riyan Islam fills his family’s small tin home in Chandpur with soft laughter and tiny, curious movements that bring hope to his parents and his elder brother Rafi. His father, Md. Jahangir, works hard as a farmer earning only about BDT 8,000 a month, struggling to provide for the family, leaving no savings for the costly eye surgery Riyan urgently needs. His mother Selina lovingly cares for him and worries as Riyan still cannot see or follow light like other babies his age. Without timely treatment, Riyan may grow up unable to see his parents’ faces or the colorful world around him, affecting his development and future. A counselor at the hospital informed the family about Helpster Charity, and they now pray for kind support to restore their baby’s sight.

Riyan Islam, a 1-year-old child, required urgent cataract surgery in the both eyes as the condition was significantly affecting vision development at this early age. The surgery was performed under general anesthesia on 31.01.2026 at Left eye by Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Sk, Chief Consultant of the Hospital, ensuring the child’s comfort and safety throughout the procedure. The treatment progressed smoothly, with the medical team carefully monitoring him during and after surgery. As healing began, he showed steady improvement, responding well to the treatment plan. The cataract removal successfully restored clarity, and visual acuity improved remarkably. Now he feels much more comfortable and can see clearly, which will greatly support healthy visual growth. This positive outcome has brought immense relief and joy to the family. According to Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Sheikh, Chief Consultant, and Dr. Md. Rashedur Rahman, Senior Consultant at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, Riyan urgently requires cataract surgery in both eyes to remove the cloudy lenses and restore the pathway for light to reach the retina. The doctors are hopeful that with timely surgical intervention, Riyan can develop functional vision and grow up like other children, with the opportunity to learn, play, and live independently. it is recommended 4 times surgery (2 Time Irrigation to remove opaque Lens and 2 Time Surgery to Implement Secondary IOL under GA in both eyes). She diagnosed with Congenital Cataract at her age of 03 Months. It is recommended immediately to remove the Opaque Lenses (Cataract) under GA and Later on Within 1 Year or having GA fitness Secondary IOL will be implanted in both eyes one by one). However, the doctors have clearly warned that delaying the surgery may cause permanent and irreversible blindness due to interrupted visual development at this sensitive age. The total cost for cataract surgery in both eyes is approximately BDT 81,000, which is far beyond the financial capacity of this struggling farmer’s family.
