Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Sadika Nur is a fragile one-month-old premature baby whose presence has brought great hope to her humble family. Her father earns around 12,000 BDT per month as a madrasha teacher, supporting six family members, including her elderly grandparents and two small children, leaving no savings after meeting basic daily expenses. The family has already exhausted their limited income during her long hospital stay after birth and is now unable to afford the urgent eye treatment she requires. Without timely care, Sadika may lose her eyesight permanently, which would greatly affect her future and place a lifelong burden on her parents. The family learned about Helpster Charity through a CNG driver and has humbly requested support to help save their daughter’s vision.

Medical history

Sadika Nur, a 1-month-old baby girl, was admitted for urgent management of Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes, a condition that can lead to permanent vision loss if left untreated. After thorough evaluation, she received Anti-VEGF injection on 24.12.2025, administered by Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, the hospital’s ROP Specialist. The treatment process was carefully planned and executed, with close monitoring to ensure safety and effectiveness. During her stay, her response to the treatment was positive, showing encouraging signs of recovery. The abnormal growth of retinal blood vessels has now been successfully controlled. Her retinal condition has improved significantly, and doctors are hopeful that he will develop clear vision in the future. She was discharged in stable condition with advice for regular follow-up, and heartfelt thanks go to Helpster Charity and Helpster Heroes for making this life-changing treatment possible.

Prognosis

According to Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Sheikh, Chief Consultant, and Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, ROP Specialist at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, Sadika urgently requires Anti-VEGF injections such as Avastin in both eyes, along with regular follow-up examinations to monitor her retinal development. The doctors are hopeful that timely treatment can stop the abnormal blood vessel growth and preserve her vision, allowing her to grow, study, and live independently like other children. However, if treatment is delayed, the damage may become irreversible, leading to lifelong blindness.
