Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?
When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About eyes
ROP (Retinopathy of Prematurity) is a potentially blinding eye disorder that affects premature infants, where abnormal blood vessels grow in the retina. If not detected and treated early, the worst consequences can include retinal detachment, leading to permanent vision loss or blindness

Background
One-month-old Mahmudul Hasan is a gentle baby who lives with his parents and grandparents in a small tin-made house in Matlab South, Chandpur. After being born prematurely and spending 14 days in the hospital, doctors recently identified a serious condition in both of his eyes that requires urgent treatment to prevent permanent loss of vision. His father, Rabbi Sarker, earns about BDT 7,500 per month as a carpenter, which is the family’s only steady income and is barely enough to cover daily expenses, making further medical treatment unaffordable. The family has already used their limited savings for his hospital care and is struggling to manage basic household needs. They learned about Helpster Charity through Nasima Akhter, Counselor of the Pediatric Unit at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital in Chandpur, and are now seeking support to save Mahmudul’s eyesight and secure his future.
Medical history
Mahmudul Hasan, a 1-month-old baby boy, was admitted for urgent management of Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes, a condition that can lead to permanent vision loss if left untreated. After thorough evaluation, he received Anti-VEGF injection on 29.01.2026, administered by Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, the hospital’s ROP Specialist. The treatment process was carefully planned and executed, with close monitoring to ensure safety and effectiveness. During his stay, his response to the treatment was positive, showing encouraging signs of recovery. The abnormal growth of retinal blood vessels has now been successfully controlled. His retinal condition has improved significantly, and doctors are hopeful that he will develop clear vision in the future. He was discharged in stable condition with advice for regular follow-up, and heartfelt thanks go to Helpster Charity and Helpster Heroes for making this life-changing treatment possible.
Prognosis
According to Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Sheikh, Chief Consultant, and Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, ROP Specialist at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, Mahmudul urgently requires Anti-VEGF injections such as Avastin in both eyes, along with regular follow-up visits to monitor retinal development. The doctors are optimistic that timely treatment can stop the abnormal vessel growth and preserve his eyesight, allowing him to grow up like other children. However, any delay in treatment may result in permanent retinal damage and lifelong blindness. The total cost of the injection and necessary follow-up care is approximately BDT 18,000, which is beyond the family’s financial capacity. With the compassionate support of generous donors, Mahmudul can receive the treatment he urgently needs and be given the priceless gift of sight—a chance to live a bright, independent, and hopeful future.
