One-month-old Anas Hawlader is a gentle baby who lives with his parents, twin sister Ayat, and elder sister Maisha in a small tin-made house in Chandpur. After being born prematurely and receiving hospital care, doctors recently identified a serious condition in both his and his sister’s eyes that now requires urgent treatment to prevent permanent loss of vision. His father, Md Ibrahim, earns only about BDT 6,000 per month as an auto rickshaw puller, which is the family’s only income and is not enough to cover daily expenses and the cost of further medical care after spending their savings on neonatal treatment. The family is struggling to meet basic needs, making specialized eye treatment impossible without assistance. They learned about Helpster Charity through Nasima Akhter, Counselor of the Pediatric Unit at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital in Chandpur, and are now humbly seeking support to save their babies’ eyesight and future.

Anas Hawlader, a 1-month-old baby boy, was admitted for urgent management of Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes, a condition that can lead to permanent vision loss if left untreated. After thorough evaluation, he received Anti-VEGF injection on 05.02.2026, administered by Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, the hospital’s ROP Specialist. The treatment process was carefully planned and executed, with close monitoring to ensure safety and effectiveness. During his stay, his response to the treatment was positive, showing encouraging signs of recovery. The abnormal growth of retinal blood vessels has now been successfully controlled. His retinal condition has improved significantly, and doctors are hopeful that he will develop clear vision in the future. He was discharged in stable condition with advice for regular follow-up, and heartfelt thanks go to Helpster Charity and Helpster Heroes for making this life-changing treatment possible.

According to Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Sheikh, Chief Consultant, and Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, ROP Specialist at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, both babies urgently require Anti-VEGF injections such as Avastin in both eyes, along with regular follow-up examinations to monitor retinal development. The doctors are hopeful that timely treatment can stop abnormal vessel growth and preserve their eyesight, allowing them to grow up normally like other children. However, if treatment is delayed, irreversible retinal damage may occur, leading to lifelong blindness. The total cost for the injections and follow-up care is approximately BDT 18,000, which is impossible for the family to afford.
