Shaline A., 13

Shaline is a thirteen-year-old girl and the only child in her family. Her mother is a homemaker, and her father is the sole provider, though he does not have a stable source of income. Despite their financial struggles, Shaline is determined and resourceful. She has a passion for hairdressing and practices plaiting over the weekends to earn small amounts of money to help meet her school needs. She also enjoys playing volleyball and actively participates in her school team. While at school, Shaline began feeling unwell. She developed a severe headache, chest pain, and difficulty breathing, which prompted her to report to the school administration. She was given painkillers, but her symptoms did not improve. As her condition persisted, the school advised her to return home and seek further medical attention from her parents. However, Shaline was aware of her family’s financial limitations and feared they would not be able to afford medical care. Having previously received treatment through Helpster Charity, she requested the school administration to assist her in accessing care at Awasi Catholic Church Health Center. The school responded promptly and facilitated her transfer to the facility. Upon evaluation and necessary tests, she was assessed and qualified for admission to the ward for further management.

Shaline got admission and received the prescribed medication. Days after she completed her doses, she was allowed to go home. She was advised to adhere to drugs as prescribed by the doctor.

Shaline diagnosed with pharyngitis require ward management because the symptoms are severe, and complications are suspected and also the child cannot maintain adequate oral intake. Admission allows close monitoring, administration of intravenous medications or fluids, and prompt management of fever, pain, or breathing difficulty. With appropriate therapy and supportive care, the prognosis is generally very good, and most children recover fully without long-term complications, especially when treatment is started early and the child is closely observed.
