Graca A., 11

Graca is the sixth-born in a family of seven children. She is an eleven-year-old Grade Six pupil at a local school in Awasi village. Both of her parents are unemployed, and the family relies entirely on her mother, who sells tomatoes at the local market to provide for the large household. Her father is unable to perform manual labor due to a chronic health condition. Despite the many hardships, Graca is bright and talented, and she dreams of becoming a journalist in the future. Graca was brought to the facility by a neighbor who works at Awasi Catholic Mission Health Centre and is well aware of the family’s difficult economic situation. It was through this staff member that the family learned about Helpster Charity and the possibility of receiving medical support. A few days before admission, Graca began complaining of severe headache, generalized body weakness, high fever, cough, and chest pain. Her condition rapidly worsened. She developed persistent high temperatures that did not subside, intense fatigue to the point that she could barely stand, and worsening chest pain accompanied by difficulty breathing. She became lethargic, lost her appetite completely, and struggled even to speak in full sentences due to exhaustion and discomfort. At home, she appeared visibly ill - her body hot to the touch, breathing fast and labored, and too weak to carry out normal activities. Her symptoms became increasingly alarming, raising concern for a serious underlying infection requiring urgent medical intervention. Recognizing the severity of her condition, the neighbor facilitated her immediate transfer to the health facility for evaluation and treatment.

The patient was admitted for ward management due to pneumonia, where hospitalization iwas necessary to allow close monitoring of the patient’s condition. The patient was managed on intravenous antibiotics and supportive care to relieve symptoms. When she presented with resolving signs, she was allowed home.

Given the severity of Graca's symptoms and the risk of respiratory compromise, immediate admission was necessary. She was started on intravenous antibiotics, oxygen therapy, fluid support, and close monitoring of her oxygen saturation and vital signs. Her nutritional status and overall weakness also required supportive care to enhance recovery. Graca’s prognosis is guarded but favorable with proper treatment
