Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?
When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About pulmonology
Severe pneumonia is a life-threatening lung infection that severely affects breathing and oxygen supply to the body. It occurs when infection causes extensive inflammation in the lungs, leading to difficulty in oxygen exchange. Severe pneumonia requires urgent hospital admission, oxygen therapy, intravenous antibiotics, and close monitoring to prevent respiratory failure and other serious complications.

Background
Francis Otieno Ochieng is a nine-year-old boy and the firstborn in a family of two children. He is in Grade Three at a nearby local school. Francis lives with his younger sister and their single mother in a small room within the market area. They do not pay rent, as a kind woman offered them shelter after learning that their mother is mentally challenged. The family lives in extreme poverty and lacks many basic necessities. They survive mainly by begging in the market to obtain food and clothing. On some days, they go without meals when people turn them away. The difficult circumstances often prevent Francis from attending school consistently, and his seven-year-old sister has not yet enrolled in school because she stays home to help their mother beg. Despite these hardships, Francis remains hopeful and resilient. He enjoys dancing and dreams of becoming a machine operator in the future. Francis was brought to the health facility by a compassionate stranger who found the family sleeping along the roadside. Moved by concern, the well-wisher engaged them in conversation and discovered that the mother was mentally challenged and that the children were both hungry and unwell. Francis reported having a persistent, non-productive cough accompanied by fever, chills, and symptoms of a common cold. The cough worsened with exposure to cold weather and had no relieving factors. He appeared weak and unwell. Medical evaluation and diagnostic tests were conducted, and he was diagnosed with severe pneumonia, necessitating admission to the ward for intensive treatment and monitoring.
Medical history
The patient was admitted for ward management for three days due to pneumonia, to allow for close monitoring. He was managed on intravenous antibiotics alongside other medication and when he was stable, he was discharged home for continuous medical care.
Prognosis
The patient is admitted for ward management due to pneumonia, a significant respiratory infection that can compromise breathing and overall body function if not carefully managed. Hospitalisation is necessary to allow close monitoring of the patient’s respiratory status, oxygen levels, temperature, and other vital signs so that any worsening condition can be detected and treated promptly. Prognosis is good with proper care, and if Francis adheres to medication upon discharge
