About urology
A Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) is a bacterial infection of the urinary system, which includes the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra. Primarily caused by E. coli bacteria entering the urinary tract, it leads to symptoms like pain when urinating, frequent urgency, cloudy/bloody urine, and lower abdominal pain. UTIs are commonly treated with antibiotics. A severe UTI, often indicating a kidney infection (pyelonephritis) or sepsis, presents with intense symptoms beyond bladder discomfort, including high fever, severe flank/back pain, nausea, vomiting, and chills. Immediate medical attention is required to prevent sepsis or renal damage.

Background
Bagoni Kyari is a 15-year-old boy who presented with a 3-day history of high-grade fever, lower abdominal pain, dysuria, urinary frequency, urgency, and occasional hematuria, associated with lethargy and intermittent back pain. There was no vomiting, diarrhea, or prior urinary tract disease, and he had previously been well. Clinical findings were consistent with a severe urinary tract infection (UTI). He was commenced on intravenous antibiotics, analgesics, and intravenous fluids, with close monitoring of urine output and clinical response under supportive care.
Medical history
Bagoni Kyarimi, a 15-year-old teenager, presented with a 3 days history of high grade fever, lower abdominal pain, dysuria, accompanied by bloody urine. After thorough evaluation and investigation, he was diagnosed with Severe Urinary tract infection. Due to the nature of his condition, he was admitted for 3 days, treated with antibiotics, rehydrated and pain medication to alleviate pain. Bagoni recovered well and was discharged home after 3 days, with a follow-up appointment scheduled for 1 week. Currently, he is doing well, has fully recovered, and has resumed his regular activities. We appreciate the timely intervention by Helpster and the UMD Medical team.
Prognosis
Bagoni, was evaluated and diagnosed with Severe urinary Tract Infection (UTI), which is causing pain urinating, blood in urine and increased urination. This requires a prompt treatment. The doctor's opinion is that he had a severe illness requiring urgent intervention, the prognosis is currently good given the documented clinical improvement and stable condition following admission and treatment.
