Rafeya Jahara has been diagnosed with Nutritional Rickets, a condition caused by deficiency of vitamin D, calcium, or other essential nutrients needed for proper bone development. This deficiency leads to soft, weak, and fragile bones, which can cause delayed growth, bone pain, and difficulty in standing or walking. In young children, rickets may also result in bowed legs or other bone deformities if not treated in time. With proper nutritional support, supplements, and medical care, her bones can gradually strengthen and her growth can improve.

Background
Rafeya Jahara Mim is a cheerful and innocent 3-year-old girl who lives with her parents in a small overcrowded shelter in Geneva Bihari Camp, where her father’s modest income as a rickshaw driver barely provides food and rent for the family. For nearly a year, Mim has struggled to stand or walk due to weak and painful bones, yet she continues to smile and cling lovingly to her mother despite her discomfort. Her parents are heartbroken watching their little daughter cry in pain, knowing they have no savings to afford the medical tests, medicines, and nutritional support she urgently needs. If left untreated, Nutritional Rickets could permanently deform her bones, severely affect her growth, and prevent her from ever walking normally. Learning about Helpster Charity through a medical outreach camp has given her family a precious hope that Mim can receive timely treatment and grow up healthy and strong.
Medical history
The patient Refeya Jahara Mim, aged 3 years 6 months, was admitted to Al-Manar Hospital Ltd., Dhaka on 15 February 2026 with the diagnosis of Severe Nutritional Rickets caused by profound Vitamin D deficiency. During her hospitalization, she received high-dose Vitamin D therapy, calcium supplementation, and supportive medical management under specialist supervision. Following several days of treatment, her condition gradually stabilized, and she was discharged on 19 February 2026 with instructions for continued medication, nutritional support, and regular follow-up visits. Although her recovery will take time, early intervention has given her a hopeful chance to regain strength and improve her physical development. Her family expressed heartfelt gratitude to Helpster Charity for making this essential treatment possible during their time of great financial hardship.
Prognosis
Doctors have recommended vitamin D injections along with supportive nutritional therapy to help strengthen Rafeya’s bones and correct the underlying deficiency. With proper and timely treatment, her bones can gradually become stronger, reducing pain and allowing her to stand and walk more confidently as she grows. This therapy will also support her overall physical development and improve her quality of life. However, if left untreated, Nutritional Rickets may lead to permanent bone deformities, delayed growth, and long-term mobility problems. Early intervention gives her a strong chance to recover and enjoy a healthy childhood.
