Simran Akter has been diagnosed with a carbuncle in her left hand, which is a severe skin and soft tissue infection involving a group of connected abscesses. This condition causes painful swelling, redness, fever, and discharge of pus from the affected area. A carbuncle develops when a bacterial infection spreads deeper into the skin and surrounding tissues. Without prompt medical treatment, the infection can worsen, spread to other parts of the body, and lead to serious complications.

Background
Simran Akter, a gentle and hardworking child from Geneva Bihari Camp, lives with her parents and elder brother in a small shelter where her father’s rickshaw income and her brother’s modest garage wages barely cover daily meals. Despite pain in her left hand for many months, she continued attending madrasah and helping her mother with household chores, never wanting to burden her struggling family. When the swelling worsened into severe pain, fever, and pus discharge due to a serious infection, her parents became deeply worried, knowing they could not afford hospital expenses. Without urgent treatment, the infection could spread further, cause permanent damage to her hand, or even threaten her overall health. Learning about Helpster Charity through an outreach camp at Al Manar Hospital gave the family hope that Simran could receive the lifesaving care she urgently needs.
Medical history
Simran Akter was admitted to Al Manar Hospital on 16th February 2026 with a diagnosis of carbuncle in the left hand, and she underwent surgery on 17th February 2026. The patient remained stable following the operation. She was discharged on 19th February 2026 with appropriate medical advice and follow-up instructions. At the time of discharge, the patient and her family expressed their sincere gratitude to Helpster Charity and the hospital team for their support and care.
Prognosis
Doctors have advised surgical excision of the abscess wall with thorough cleaning under general anesthesia to completely remove the infected tissue and control the spread of infection. With this treatment, Simran is expected to recover well, experience relief from pain and fever, and regain normal use of her hand after proper healing and care. Early surgical management will also prevent the infection from spreading to deeper tissues or into the bloodstream. However, if left untreated, the infection could worsen, cause permanent damage to her hand, or lead to life-threatening complications such as severe systemic infection. Timely surgery will protect her health and allow her to return to her studies and daily activities safely.
