Baby Lavender is the first child of a teenage mother who became pregnant while in Form 3, leading to her dropping out of school. She is the firstborn in her family. Baby Lavender lives with his mother, grandparents, three aunts, and one uncle in a single-room mud-walled house. The household survives on the income of the grandmother, a peasant farmer who is the sole breadwinner, as the grandfather is chronically ill and bedridden. The family faces significant financial hardship, with no stable source of income. One Wednesday morning, Baby Lavender’s mother began experiencing abdominal pains. She initially took painkillers, hoping for relief, but by evening the pain had intensified. Due to the late hour, there was no available motorbike transport to take her to the nearest public health facility. By the following morning, the pain had worsened considerably, forcing her to seek help at a nearby private facility. Unfortunately, she was unable to receive adequate medical attention because she did not have the required funds. Left with no option, she departed the facility and began walking toward the highway in an effort to find transport to the local sub-county hospital. A kind passerby with a motorbike assisted her and transported her to the hospital, where she delivered prematurely. She gave birth to twins; sadly, one of the babies passed away, while the surviving twin was referred to Siaya County Referral Hospital for specialized neonatal care. While at the referral hospital, the young mother noticed a poster about Helpster Charity and approached a hospital social worker to inquire whether she could receive assistance. The social worker conducted a socioeconomic assessment and determined that she met the eligibility criteria for support under Helpster Charity’s program.

Baby Lavender was diagnosed with low birth weight and preterm as he was born at five months. He was admitted to the new born unit with 1000g , he was administered IV xpen, gentamicin, caffeine citrate, normal saline among other drugs. He respoywell to medication and was transferred to the mothers kangirr wing where breastfeeding was initiated and encouraged. Baby lavender wasfinally discharged at a weight of 1600 g on orals

The prognosis for a newborn with low birth weight (LBW), prematurity, and hypothermia is guarded and high-risk, as these three conditions create a "triple threat" that significantly increases the likelihood of mortality. Baby Lavender received prompt admission to the newborn unit and is set to make a full recovery
