Nurjahan Fatema has been diagnosed as Pneumonia with enlarged adenoids and suspected pulmonary tuberculosis. Pneumonia with enlarged adenoids and suspected pulmonary tuberculosis means Nurjahan Fatema is suffering from a serious infection in her lungs that is causing cough, fever, and difficulty breathing. The enlarged adenoids, which are tissues located behind the nose, can block the airway and make breathing and swallowing more difficult, especially during infections. In addition, doctors suspect pulmonary tuberculosis, a lung disease that requires careful testing and treatment if confirmed. With proper medical care and monitoring, her condition can improve, but without timely treatment the infection may worsen and cause serious damage to her lungs.

Background
Nurjahan Fatema lives with her parents and grandmother in a small, overcrowded shelter in Geneva Bihari Camp. Her father earns about 8,500 BDT per month, which is barely enough to support the family’s daily needs, leaving them unable to afford medical treatment. Over the past year, she has experienced repeated cough, cold, and breathing problems, and for the last six months she has had a swelling on the side of her neck. Recently, her condition worsened with fever and breathing difficulty, which led the family to seek help during a Helpster Charity medical outreach camp on 16 February 2026, after which she was admitted to Al-Manar Hospital. Without proper treatment, the lung infection and swelling in her neck may worsen and seriously affect her health.
Medical history
The patient Nurjahan Fatema, aged 9 years, was admitted to Al-Manar Hospital Ltd. on 16 February 2026 with a diagnosis of pneumonia with enlarged adenoids and suspected pulmonary tuberculosis. She received conservative medical treatment and close monitoring under pediatric supervision during her hospital stay. Following several days of treatment, her condition gradually improved, and she was discharged on 22 February 2026 with prescribed medications and follow-up advice. Nurjahan and her family expressed heartfelt gratitude to Helpster Charity for the financial and medical support that made her treatment and recovery possible.
Prognosis
Doctors have recommended hospitalization under a pediatrician with conservative and supportive treatment, along with anti-tuberculosis medication to control the lung infection and closely monitor Nurjahan Fatema’s condition. With proper treatment, the infection in her lungs can gradually improve, her breathing can become easier, and the swelling related to the enlarged adenoids may also be managed. Early and consistent treatment will help protect her lungs and allow her to return to a healthier childhood. However, if she does not receive timely medical care, the infection could spread and cause severe damage to her lungs. In a young child, untreated pneumonia and tuberculosis can become life-threatening and may lead to long-term breathing problems or serious complications
