Nahid Islam has been diagnosed with multiple nasal polyps along with hypertrophy of the inferior turbinates (HIT), which means there is abnormal tissue growth and swelling inside his nose. These conditions are blocking his nasal passages and making it difficult for him to breathe properly. As a result, he experiences persistent nasal obstruction, mouth breathing, discomfort at night, and disturbed sleep. Without proper treatment, this blockage can lead to repeated infections, worsening breathing problems, and reduced overall quality of life.

Background
Nine-year-old Nahid Islam is a cheerful and kind-hearted boy who dreams of becoming a teacher, even though he struggles daily with breathing difficulties caused by enlarged nasal tissue and polyps. He lives with his father Hashem Ali, a day laborer, his mother, elder sister Halima—who also suffers from tonsil problems—and his grandparents in a six-member family that survives on a very limited income. As the only earning member, his father can barely manage daily expenses and cannot afford the medical costs and possible surgeries needed for both children. Without timely treatment, Nahid’s breathing problems may worsen, leading to severe sleep disturbance, repeated infections, and long-term health complications. After learning about Helpstar through Sadika, the family reached out with hope for support to give Nahid and Halima a healthy future.
Medical history
The patient, Nahid Islam, 9 years old, was admitted to City Clinic on 01 May 2026. A successful Polypectomy operation was performed during the admission period. The child responded well to treatment and showed satisfactory recovery. He was discharged on 05 May 2026 with proper medical advice and follow-up instructions. The patient and his family expressed heartfelt gratitude to Helpster, the dedicated volunteers, and City Clinic for their kind support and care throughout the treatment.
Prognosis
Doctors have recommended endoscopic polypectomy to remove the nasal polyps and clear Nahid’s blocked airways. With this procedure, his breathing is expected to improve significantly, allowing him to sleep peacefully, concentrate on his studies, and enjoy normal childhood activities without constant discomfort. Early treatment can also prevent repeated infections and further swelling inside the nose. However, if left untreated, the blockage may worsen and lead to severe breathing difficulty, frequent infections, and serious complications such as obstructed airflow during sleep, which in extreme cases can become life-threatening. Timely surgical intervention is therefore essential to protect his health and ensure a safe and healthy future.
