Samia Akter has been diagnosed with severe pneumonia along with cervical lymphadenopathy and suspected pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB). The severe pneumonia has caused significant infection in her lungs, leading to high fever, persistent cough, and serious breathing difficulty. The enlarged lymph nodes in her neck indicate that her body is fighting a strong infection, possibly related to tuberculosis. Suspected pulmonary tuberculosis further raises concern, as it is a serious lung disease that requires long-term treatment and careful medical supervision to prevent complications.

Background
Nine-year-old Samia Akter lives with her parents, Md. Imran and Pinky Begum, in a small overcrowded shelter in Geneva Bihari Camp, where her father’s monthly income of around 10,000 BDT as a day laborer barely manages food and rent. With no savings and no financial security, the family is unable to afford the costly hospital care and long-term treatment her serious illness requires. Samia is a bright and gentle girl who loves spending time with her mother and helping at home, but her severe pneumonia and suspected tuberculosis have left her weak, breathless, and unable to enjoy her childhood. Without proper and continued treatment, her infection could worsen, leading to severe lung damage, further spread of tuberculosis, or even life-threatening complications. After learning about Helpster Charity through a medical outreach camp, her desperate parents reached out with hope to save their daughter’s life and future.
Medical history
The patient Samia Akter, aged 9 years, was admitted to Al-Manar Hospital Ltd., Dhaka on 16 February 2026 with the diagnosis of Severe Pneumonia with Cervical Lymphadenopathy and suspected Pulmonary Tuberculosis (PTB). She received inpatient medical management, including oxygen support, antibiotics, and close monitoring under specialist supervision. After several days of treatment, her condition gradually stabilized, and she was discharged on 21 February 2026 with strict advice for continued medication, investigations, and follow-up care. Although she is showing signs of improvement, she still requires ongoing treatment to ensure full recovery. Samia and her parents expressed heartfelt gratitude to Helpster Charity for the vital support provided during this critical time.
Prognosis
Doctors have started Samia on parenteral (injectable) antibiotics along with oxygen and supportive treatment to control the severe lung infection and stabilize her breathing. With proper evaluation for tuberculosis and completion of the full course of prescribed medications, she has a strong chance of gradual recovery, improved lung function, and a return to normal childhood activities. Regular follow-up and adequate nutrition will further strengthen her immune system and reduce the risk of future complications. However, if treatment is interrupted or left incomplete, the infection could return more aggressively, potentially causing permanent lung damage, spread of tuberculosis, or even life-threatening respiratory failure. Continuous medical care is therefore essential to protect her life and ensure a healthy future
