Miriam Lutoma is a 16-year-old girl living at a children's home. She is an orphan who enjoys playing basketball and listening to music. The children’s home relies entirely on support from well-wishers to meet the needs of the children. Miriam was brought to the home at the age of 11 after being found abandoned on the streets of Nairobi by city police. She is a cheerful and optimistic girl who dreams of becoming a doctor in the future so she can give back and support other children in the orphanage. The Children’s Home became aware of Helpster Charity through a site visit conducted by medical practitioners from Rheemah Hospital, as well as through Vincent, a Helpster volunteer. Miriam had been in good health until four days prior when she developed symptoms including headache, fever, excessive sweating, generalized body weakness, and loss of appetite. She was initially given painkillers and antimalarial (AL) tablets, but her condition did not improve. Concerned about her health, the matron, Virginia, took her to Rheemah Hospital for further medical care. At the hospital, she was examined by the attending medical officer and underwent necessary tests, which confirmed a diagnosis of severe malaria. She was immediately admitted and started on treatment, including intravenous fluids and antimalarial medication.

Miriam has been well until 4 days ago when She started experiencing Headache , Fever, Excessive sweating , Genaral body ache and poor appetite. she was given some painkiller's and AL tabs which did not help at all Viginia who is there Matron brought her to Rheemah Hospital for Medical assistance. Miriam was seen by medical officer in charge by examining and test done, she was diagnosed with severe Malaria. She was admitted immediately, treatment began by giving i.v Artesunate 60mg. i.v Ceftriaxon/ Sulbactam 1.5mg , i.v DNS 500MLS, and Lornat tabs, Brustan tabs , Augumentin625mg on discharge. She is now doing well and back to his joyful self again.

Miriam’s prognosis is very good. With prompt diagnosis and treatment for severe malaria, including fluids and antimalarial therapy, most patients recover fully without long-term complications If treatment is delayed, malaria can become severe and life-threatening, affecting the brain, kidneys, or other organs.
