Nephrolithiasis is a condition in which hard mineral deposits (stones) form within the kidney. These stones can obstruct the flow of urine and irritate the urinary tract, leading to symptoms such as flank pain, painful urination, frequent urination, and blood in the urine. If not treated, kidney stones may cause persistent pain, urinary infection, or kidney damage. Management may involve medications, increased fluid intake, or surgical procedures such as nephrolithotomy to remove the stone and restore normal urinary function.

Background
Khamisu Ali is a 10-year-old boy from a supportive family. He is cheerful, responsible, and active in school and at home, with hopes of continuing his education despite financial challenges. He has generally been healthy with no previous major illnesses or surgeries. He developed right-sided flank pain five days ago, accompanied by painful urination, frequent urination, and occasional blood in the urine. Plain abdominal x-ray (KUB) confirmed the presence of a kidney stone in his right kidney. He is currently moderately ill but stable, and surgical removal of the stone (nephrolithotomy) has been planned to relieve his symptoms and prevent complications.
Medical history
Khamisu was admitted on 28/02/2026 after being diagnosed with a kidney stone. He underwent a successful nephrolithotomy (surgical removal of the kidney stone) and received appropriate postoperative care with close monitoring of his urine output and blood in the urine. Following five days of hospitalization, Khamisu was discharged on 05/03/2026 in good condition. He recovered without complications, his symptoms resolved, and he was able to return home to continue his recovery and resume his normal daily activities. Prognosis
Khamisu has kidney stone called Nephrolithiasis. He was in painful distress urinating and having blood in urine. It can lead to infection, worsening pain, or impairment of kidney function, if left untreated, making timely intervention important. With appropriate surgical removal of the stone and supportive care, symptoms are expected to resolve and normal kidney function preserved. Prognosis is generally good following treatment, though follow-up is necessary to monitor recovery and reduce the risk of recurrence.
