Md. Rafiq, a 21-year-old Rohingya refugee, lives with his elderly parents, his wife, and their young child in a small makeshift shelter in the refugee camps of Bangladesh. As the only earning member, he works as a daily laborer whenever work is available, but his irregular and very limited income is barely enough to provide food for the family, leaving no money for medical treatment. For the past nine months, he has been suffering from a swelling in his right groin that causes pain and discomfort, especially when he stands or performs physical work, making it difficult for him to continue earning for his family. The family learned about Helpster Charity through Helpster volunteer Ahammod Ali Azad, which gave them hope for medical support. Without proper treatment, his condition could become severe and life-threatening, and if he becomes unable to work, his parents, wife, and young child would struggle even more to survive.

Mohammad Rafiq, a 21-year-old male, was admitted with a 9-month history of swelling in the right groin extending into the scrotum. The swelling was more prominent during standing, coughing, straining, or lifting heavy objects and would typically reduce on lying down or with gentle manual pressure. Over time, the condition became increasingly symptomatic, with episodes of severe pain and discomfort that significantly interfered with his daily activities and work. During hospitalization, the patient received intravenous fluids for correction of dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. His vital signs were closely monitored, and he was optimized for surgery following pre-operative anaesthetic assessment. On 19.03.2026, he underwent Right Inguinal Hernioplasty (Lichtenstein Tension-Free Mesh Repair) under general anaesthesia at Orion Hospital. The procedure was completed successfully without any intraoperative complications. Post-operative care and monitoring were provided as per standard protocols. The patient remained hospitalized for a total of 6 days and demonstrated steady clinical improvement throughout his stay. He was discharged on 22.03.2026 in stable condition, with appropriate medications, dietary advice, and follow-up instructions. The entire cost of treatment was generously supported by Helpster Charity. The patient and his family express their sincere gratitude to Helpster, its volunteers, and the hospital team for their compassionate support and dedicated care.

Doctors have recommended Right Inguinal Hernioplasty (Lichtenstein Tension-Free Mesh Repair) under General Anesthesia, followed by proper post-operative care and regular follow-up. This surgical procedure will repair the weakness in the abdominal wall and prevent the intestine from pushing into the groin and scrotum. With successful surgery and recovery, Mohammad Rafique is expected to return to normal daily activities and physical work without pain or discomfort. However, if the condition is left untreated, the hernia may become trapped and block the intestine, causing severe pain and swelling. In such cases, it can cut off the blood supply to the intestine and become life-threatening, requiring emergency surgery.
