Rakiya is a 28-year-old housewife living in a remote community 50km from Bauchi. For seven years, she has shared a modest life with her husband, a manual laborer. Their daily existence is a struggle against extreme poverty; the couple lives in a cramped two-room shack without electricity, relying on a pit toilet and drawing water from a local well. With a meager and inconsistent income, providing even basic daily meals is a constant challenge for the household. Now in her ninth month of pregnancy, Rakiya faces a life-threatening crisis. She recently presented with severe headaches and significant swelling in her legs. Although she diligently attended antenatal checkups at a local primary healthcare facility, her history of pregnancy-induced hypertension has escalated into a medical emergency. Clinical findings show a symphysis fundal height of 36cm with a cephalic presentation. Despite stable vital signs - a pulse of 72 bpm and 98% oxygen saturation - her condition is critical. Diagnosed with severe Pregnancy Induced Hypertension, Rakiya urgently requires an emergency Caesarean Section to save both her life and her baby’s.

Rakiya a 28-year-old pregnant woman was brought to our hospital where she was diagnosed with pregnancy induced hypertension, she was planned for a caesarean section where surgery was performed successfully. Mother and baby were on admission for post op. Patient has been on constant monitoring for blood pressure control and wound dressing until stable and fully recovered for discharge. Patient will be back for follow up after 5 days. Mother was advised to ensure vaccination of baby. The family remained grateful to Helpser Charity and the entire team for the medical support.

Prognosis depends on the timely intervention of delivery the baby and blood pressure control.
