Hafsat L., 19

Hafsat Lawan, 19, comes from a struggling family. Her father, a daily-wage conductor, supports 7 family members with limited resources. Despite challenges, Hafsat is a diligent student. She dreams of becoming a midwife to support women in her community. Hafsat Lawan, a 19-year-old female, presented with irregular, heavy menstrual bleeding for the past 6 months, associated with fatigue and dizziness.She had history of menorrhagia and metrorrhagia,she received several treatment but symptoms persisted. On examination: Pale conjunctiva and mild pallor Uterus normal size, non-tender on palpation No abdominal masses or organomegaly Diagnosis: Dysfunctional uterine bleeding (DUB) with moderate Anaemia. Management plan: Patient will be admitted for treatment upon approval by Helpster charity foundation. In the meantime, she was given tab tranexamic acid, mefanamic acid with iron tonics pending Blood transfusion and other supportive management.

After falling seriously ill with irregular heavy menstrual bleeding for the past six months accompanied by fatigue,and intense body weakness and became lethargic and reported lost of appetite.Her parent noticed she became dehydrated.Hafsat struggled to keep up with daily life. Her family, worried and without enough money for treatment, turned to Helpster Charity for support. Thanks to Helpster Charity, Hafsat was evaluated and investigated in UMD hospital and Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding with moderate anemia. She was admitted and had some injections, intravenous fluids and other supportive treatment in the hospital for 3 days. Slowly, she recovered, symptoms subsided, and she regained her strength.She was discharged home with her parents, and she can resume her regular activities. Hafsat and her family are deeply thankful to Helpster Charity for their kindness and timely help that gave her a second chance at health and hope.

Patient presented with active bleeding and anemia (Hb 7.5 g/dL, PCV 23%). Initial IV fluids given, but repeat PCV dropped to 22%, indicating ongoing loss. Without intervention, severe anemia and reduced oxygen delivery to vital organs may occur, stressing the heart and kidneys. Blood transfusion was recommended to stabilize and speed recovery.
