Background
Aisha is a 15year old girl who is a hardworking student and dreams of becoming a medical doctor. About one week ago, she became unwell, developed fever, headache, anorexia and generalized body pain. She gets relieve when she takes pain medications.
Medical history
Aisha arrived at the hospital presenting with symptoms including colicky abdominal pain, fever, vomiting, dizziness, diarrhea, loss of appetite, and generalized body pain. She was admitted on November 25, 2023, and underwent preliminary investigations, leading to a diagnosis of Acute Malaria with Enteric fever. A treatment regimen comprising antibiotics, analgesics, multivitamins, antimalarial drugs, and intravenous infusion was administered. As her clinical condition improved following treatment, she was discharged on November 28th, 2023.
Prognosis
Malaria should be treated promptly with the use of antimalarial drugs. If left untreated, it can lead to severe complications and even death. It can result in organ failure, severe anemia, neurological issues, and in some cases, prove fatal, making early diagnosis and treatment crucial for preventing these life-threatening consequences.
