Nurjahan Fatema, a gentle and resilient 9-year-old girl, lives with her parents and grandmother in a small, overcrowded shelter in Geneva Bihari Camp, where poor living conditions have greatly affected her health. Her father, Mohammad Nurmohammad, works as a security guard earning only 8,500 BDT per month, which is barely enough to support the family, making it impossible for them to afford her ongoing treatment, while her mother and grandmother care for her constantly. She was first admitted to the hospital with severe pneumonia and received treatment, but after being discharged, her condition did not fully improve, and she returned again seeking help with persistent fever, cough, and a painful swelling in her neck. The family learned about Helpster Charity through a medical outreach camp in their community organized by Helpster Charity on 16.02.2026

Nurjahan Fatema, aged 9, was admitted to Al-Manar Hospital on 12th March 2026 with a diagnosis of tubercular lymphadenopathy with a neck abscess and moderate adenoid enlargement. She underwent selective neck dissection under general anesthesia on the same day and stayed 1 night in the hospital. Following the surgery, Nurjahan showed steady improvement and was discharged on 13th March 2026 with detailed medical advice and medications for post-operative care. Her family expressed deep gratitude to Helpster Charity for providing the support needed to access timely and life-saving treatment. With continued follow-up and anti-tubercular therapy, Nurjahan now has hope for a full recovery and a healthier childhood.

According to the doctor, the planned treatment—neck dissection under general anesthesia followed by a full course of anti-tuberculosis medication—offers a strong chance of recovery for Nurjahan Fatema. The surgery will remove the infected tissue and drain the abscess, relieving pain and preventing the infection from spreading further, while the medications will completely treat the underlying tuberculosis infection. With proper treatment, she is expected to gradually regain her strength, breathe more comfortably, and return to a healthy and active life. However, if left untreated, the infection could continue to spread to other parts of her body, causing severe complications such as worsening breathing problems, widespread infection, and long-term damage. In such cases, the condition can become life-threatening, making timely treatment essential for her survival and recovery.
