Khushi A., 11

Khushi Akhter is an 11-year-old girl living with her parents and family in a small, overcrowded shelter in Geneva Camp, Dhaka, where poor living conditions make daily life very challenging. Her father, Khorshed Alam, works in a garment factory and earns about 8,500 BDT per month, which is not enough to cover basic household expenses, making it impossible for the family to afford her treatment, while her mother, Jinnat Parbin, manages the home. Khushi is a kind and determined student of class five who enjoys cooking and dreams of becoming a teacher, but she has been suffering from repeated throat infections, and this time she had high fever and severe sore throat for seven days, along with difficulty in breathing and swallowing. Without proper treatment, her condition could become life-threatening due to serious breathing problems and risk of infection spreading. The family learned about Helpster Charity through a medical outreach camp in their community organized by Helpster Charity on 16th February 2026.

Khushi Akhter was admitted to the hospital on 12/03/2026 with complaints of throat infection and breathing difficulty, where she was diagnosed with adenotonsillitis with bilateral inferior turbinate hypertrophy. On the same day, 12/03/2026, she successfully underwent adenotonsillectomy with reduction of the inferior turbinate under general anesthesia. After the surgery, she responded well to treatment and showed good recovery, and she was discharged in stable condition on 13/03/2026 with necessary medications and advice. According to the doctor, the recommended treatment—adenotonsillectomy with reduction of the inferior turbinate under general anesthesia—offers a strong chance of full recovery and will significantly improve Khushi’s quality of life. After the surgery, she is expected to breathe normally, eat comfortably, sleep better, and experience fewer infections, allowing her to return to school and daily activities without constant illness. The procedure will also help prevent further complications related to poor growth and repeated infections. However, if left untreated, her condition may worsen, leading to severe breathing obstruction, frequent high fevers, difficulty in maintaining proper nutrition, and increased risk of life-threatening complications. Early surgical intervention is therefore essential to ensure her healthy development and overall well-being.
