Background
Lawal is a 6-year old boy who does not go to school as his family cannot afford it, but would like to become a lawyer when he grows up. He developed swelling in the scrotum about one year ago and was diagnosed with hydrocele, but parents could not afford the surgical treatment. He occasionally receives analgesics to relieve the pains caused by the swelling.
Medical history
The 3-year-old boy presented with complaints of Fever, difficulty in swelling, snoring, and drooling of saliva at night. The left scrotum swelling was noticed since birth. Due to financial status, they cannot afford to pay for the surgery. He was admitted on the 27th of November 2023 and had Hydrocelectomy surgery done; It was successful with no complaints. The child was discharged home on the 30th of November in better health and his parent were thankful to Helpster.
Prognosis
The persistent presence of a hydrocele can cause ongoing discomfort, heaviness, or a feeling of fullness in the scrotum. Although hydroceles are not typically associated with infections, untreated ones may become prone to infections, which can result in pain and complications. Larger hydroceles can interfere with activities like walking or participating in sports due to the added weight and size of the swollen scrotum. Surgical removal of the hydrocele sac is the most effective and permanent treatment for hydrocele. It is typically performed as an outpatient procedure under local or general anesthesia. The surgeon makes a small incision in the scrotum, drains the fluid, and removes the sac.
