Gabriel Mbogo is a three-year-old boy living with cerebral palsy, a condition that has significantly affected his development, as he is unable to walk, talk, or sit without support. He lives in a special needs children’s home that also serves as a school. He was born to a single mother and is her only child. Due to financial constraints, he stayed with his grandmother from six months of age before being admitted to the children’s home, which relies largely on well-wishers to support children from underprivileged backgrounds. Gabriel was well until one morning when he developed an on-and-off fever accompanied by vomiting during feeding. His mother gave him paracetamol, which temporarily reduced the fever. However, later that night, the fever worsened and was associated with loss of appetite and difficulty feeding. By morning, he had become significantly weaker. He was taken to a health facility where he was diagnosed with severe malaria and severe acute malnutrition, both requiring urgent admission. His mother sought support from Helpster Charity, which had previously assisted them, and Gabriel was promptly admitted for care.

Gabriel was diagnosed with severe malaria and severe acute malnutrition that required admission. He was immediately admitted at the paeds and was being monitored and administered with I. V Artesunate, paracetamol syrup, RUFT, P. O folic acid, I. V x-pen, I. V Gentimycin. His progress was well and was discharge on drug adherence as doctor prescription.

Gabriel’s condition is critical due to the combination of severe malaria and severe acute malnutrition, compounded by underlying cerebral palsy, which increases his vulnerability. Immediate admission and treatment with antimalarial therapy, nutritional rehabilitation, and supportive care were necessary to stabilize him. With timely and appropriate management, he has a fair chance of recovery. However, his prognosis remains guarded due to his weakened nutritional state and underlying disability, requiring close monitoring, continued nutritional support, and follow-up care to prevent relapse and complications.
