Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About eyes

Nahid Ahmed has been diagnosed as traumatic cataract. Cataract is a clouding of the lens inside the eye, which causes blurry vision and can make it difficult to see clearly. If not treated, cataracts can lead to complete blindness, making it impossible for a person to see anything. This can severely affect daily life, independence, and quality of life, and in some cases, blindness may become permanent if not treated in time.

Thank you for saving this life!

Background

Nahid Ahmed, a quiet and determined Class 10 student, lives with his parents and three younger siblings in a small rural home where his father’s monthly income of around 7,000 BDT is barely enough to meet basic needs. As the eldest child, Nahid carries the hope of supporting his family one day, but his life has been disrupted by a serious eye injury that has affected his vision and made it difficult for him to continue his studies. Despite his strong desire to learn, he now struggles to read and attend school properly, while his father has already spent their limited savings on initial treatment. Without urgent surgery, Nahid may lose his vision in the affected eye permanently, which would force him to drop out of school and limit his future opportunities. The family learned about Helpster Charity through volunteer Redwan in Zakiganj, and with guidance from Dr. Shahid, Nahid was referred to Mazharul Haque BNSB Hospital, where they now seek support to restore his eyesight and future.

Medical history

Nahid Ahmed, a 16-year-old boy, required urgent cataract surgery in the Left eye as the condition was significantly affecting vision development at this early age. The surgery was performed on 04.03.2026 at Left eye by Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Sk, Chief Consultant of the Hospital, ensuring the child’s comfort and safety throughout the procedure. The treatment progressed smoothly, with the medical team carefully monitoring him during and after surgery. As healing began, he showed steady improvement, responding well to the treatment plan. The cataract removal successfully restored clarity, and visual acuity improved remarkably. Now he feels much more comfortable and can see clearly, which will greatly support healthy visual growth. This positive outcome has brought immense relief and joy to the family. Special thanks go to Helpster Charity and Helpster Heroes for their generous support in helping Joy regain vision in the operated eyes.

Prognosis

According to Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Sheikh, Chief Consultant, and Dr. Md. Rashedur Rahman, Senior Consultant at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, Nahid urgently requires cataract surgery in his left eye to remove the damaged lens and restore useful vision. The doctors are hopeful that timely surgery will significantly improve his eyesight, allowing him to continue his education, perform daily tasks independently, and regain confidence in his future. The doctors have also warned that delaying surgery may cause permanent weakening of vision and reduce the success of treatment later. The total cost of surgery is BDT 40,500, which is impossible for his low-income family to manage. Information about Nahid’s case reached Helpster through Nasima Akhter, Counselor of the Pediatric Unit at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, and Md Redowan, Volunteer of Helpster Charity in Sylhet. With compassionate donor support, Nahid can receive the surgery he urgently needs and continue his education with the chance to build a better future for himself and his family.
