Tamim Iqbal, a one-month-old premature baby, rests quietly in his mother Taslima Akter’s arms, finding comfort in her presence while his father Abdur Rahim struggles to support the entire family on a modest income of 7,000 BDT per month. Living in a small tin house in Char Boti with his two school-going brothers, elderly grandparents, and no financial savings, the family can barely meet their daily needs, making it impossible to afford the 18,000 BDT required for his urgent eye treatment. Although calm and gentle by nature, Tamim has been diagnosed with a serious eye condition that could lead to permanent vision loss if not treated in time. Without this treatment, he may grow up unable to see, attend school, or live independently like his brothers. The family learned about Helpster Charity through volunteer Md Al Amin and Nasima Akhter, a counsellor at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, and now they are seeking compassionate support to save their child’s future.

Tamim Iqbal, a 1-month-old baby boy, was admitted for urgent management of Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes, a condition that can lead to permanent vision loss if left untreated. After thorough evaluation, he received Anti-VEGF injection on 12.03.2026, administered by Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, the hospital’s ROP Specialist. The treatment process was carefully planned and executed, with close monitoring to ensure safety and effectiveness. During his stay, his response to the treatment was positive, showing encouraging signs of recovery. The abnormal growth of retinal blood vessels has now been successfully controlled. His retinal condition has improved significantly, and doctors are hopeful that he will develop clear vision in the future. He was discharged in stable condition with advice for regular follow-up, and heartfelt thanks go to Helpster Charity and Helpster Heroes for making this life-changing treatment possible.

According to Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Sheikh and Dr. Md Saiful Islam, Tamim urgently requires Avastin injection in both eyes and routine retinal follow-up under specialist supervision. The doctors believe that if treatment is provided immediately, abnormal retinal vessel growth can be stopped, allowing the retina to mature safely and preserving useful eyesight. Without treatment, the disease may rapidly worsen and lead to severe visual impairment or complete blindness. At his age, untreated blindness would permanently affect education, mobility, independence, and quality of life. The doctors strongly recommend urgent donor assistance so treatment can begin without delay during this crucial stage. Early intervention can save Tamim’s sight and change his life permanently.
