Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Mohammad Tawhid Islam, a one-month-old baby, lies quietly in his mother Tahmina Akter’s arms, finding comfort in her presence while his father Md Habib struggles to support the family on a limited income of 7,500 BDT per month. Living in a small tin house in West Masimpur with his brother Tahsin and sister Nusrat, who are both attending school, the family can barely manage their daily needs and has no savings for medical care. Despite his calm and gentle nature, Tawhid has been diagnosed with a serious eye condition that requires urgent treatment. Without timely care, he may lose his vision permanently, affecting his ability to recognize his loved ones, attend school, and live independently in the future. The family came to know about Helpster Charity through Md Al Amin and Nasima Akhter, and they are now seeking support to save their child’s eyesight.

Medical history

Mohammad Tawhid Islam, a 1-month-old baby boy, was admitted for urgent management of Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes, a condition that can lead to permanent vision loss if left untreated. After thorough evaluation, he received Anti-VEGF injection on 12.03.2026, administered by Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, the hospital’s ROP Specialist. The treatment process was carefully planned and executed, with close monitoring to ensure safety and effectiveness. During his stay, his response to the treatment was positive, showing encouraging signs of recovery. The abnormal growth of retinal blood vessels has now been successfully controlled. His retinal condition has improved significantly, and doctors are hopeful that he will develop clear vision in the future. He was discharged in stable condition with advice for regular follow-up, and heartfelt thanks go to Helpster Charity and Helpster Heroes for making this life-changing treatment possible.

Prognosis

According to Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Sheikh and Dr. Md Saiful Islam, Tawhid urgently requires Avastin injection in both eyes and routine retinal follow-up under close supervision. The doctors believe that immediate treatment can stop abnormal blood vessel growth and help preserve retinal function, giving him a strong chance to develop useful eyesight. If left untreated, retinal damage may continue rapidly and become irreversible, resulting in severe visual impairment or total blindness. At such an early age, this would permanently affect his education, mobility, and future independence. The doctors strongly recommend urgent financial support so treatment can begin within the therapeutic window and protect his sight while recovery is still possible.
