Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?
When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Torticollis is a common phenomenon when the neck muscles spasm and the neck twists to the side. This causes pain on one side of the neck and difficulty straightening the neck. The cause is likely from the fetus's position in the uterus resulting in injury to the neck muscles. Several key movement milestones may be delayed, including rolling over, sitting up independently, crawling, standing, and walking.

Background
Leakhena is a nine-year old girl with an engaging smile. She lives with her parents in Phnom Penh district. Her mother is a garment worker and her father drives a tuk-tuk. Leakhena had a younger brother, but tragically, he drowned last year in a pond near their home. In the third grade, Leakhena is at the top of her class and enjoys Khmer history and math. When she grows up, she would like to be a doctor. At home, she studies with her uncle, and likes to eat fried rice with egg.
Medical history
Leakhena had a sternocleidomastoid (tendon) release in her neck under general anesthesia. A specialty doctor revised her neck muscles so she can move her head better. If neglected, she could suffer irreversible facial and skeletal deformities. Her parents worked with the physiotherapist to learn and do exercises every day for their daughter, and they learned how to change the dressing on her neck until the stitches were removed. She will limit her activities and take pain medication as needed. Once she's fully healed, she'll be able to do develop age-appropriate motor skills, anticipating a future free from the mockery of her neck. She's excited about having a good life. Stitches will be removed in 7 days.
Prognosis
Left untreated, torticollis can create long-term health issues for the child, including developmental delays. Surgery for torticollis is a nerve/tendon procedure should be done by orthopedic surgeons or plastic surgeons and may involve procedures to release or lengthen the tight muscles in the neck. This can sometimes alleviate the abnormal head posture associated with the condition. Surgical lengthening of the sternocleidomastoid muscle is typically considered when conservative measures, such as physical therapy, are not effective or not available in the rural areas of Cambodia.
