Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Acute abdomen due to Ascaris lumbricoides refers to severe abdominal pain caused by intestinal blockage or irritation from a heavy worm infestation. Protein-energy malnutrition is a condition where the body lacks adequate nutrients, especially proteins and calories, leading to poor growth, weakened immunity, and reduced strength. Tunga penetrans infestation (jigger infestation) occurs when parasitic fleas burrow into the skin, causing painful lesions, inflammation, and risk of infection. Together, these conditions reflect a severe burden of disease often linked to poor sanitation, inadequate nutrition, and limited access to healthcare, requiring urgent medical attention.

Background
Milly is a 4-year-old child living with his mother in a rural village with challenging living conditions. His mother is the sole caregiver and provider, working as a house help and earning a very limited income that is insufficient to meet basic needs such as food, shelter, and healthcare. Milly is currently seriously ill and has been admitted to a health facility, requiring urgent medical care. However, due to financial constraints, his mother is unable to meet the cost of treatment. She learned about Helpster Charity through her church and sought assistance. Milly was brought to the hospital with complaints of severe abdominal pain, frequent vomiting, and diarrhea, with worms noted in the stool. He also had fever, general body weakness, irritability, and poor feeding. Based on clinical assessment, laboratory tests, and abdominal ultrasound findings, she was diagnosed with acute abdomen due to Ascaris lumbricoides, protein-energy malnutrition, and Tunga penetrans infestation. She was subsequently admitted for further management and treatment.
Medical history
Mother brought the child in the hospital with complains of; severe abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea associated with worms, fever, general body weakness, irritability and poor feeding. Based on clinical examination, laboratory, abdominal altrasound, Milly was diagnosed with a cute abdomen, protein -Energy malnutrition and tungiasis infestation. Milly was admitted for treatment, nutritional management for several days and responded positively to medication and discharged when stabilized and in good condition.
Prognosis
Milly presents with a complex clinical picture involving intestinal worm infestation causing acute abdominal symptoms, underlying malnutrition, and parasitic skin infestation. She has been admitted for comprehensive management, including deworming, nutritional rehabilitation, infection control, and supportive care. Her condition is currently guarded but stable under close medical supervision. With appropriate treatment and nutritional support, she is expected to show gradual improvement. However, recovery will depend on sustained care and follow-up, as delayed or inadequate treatment may lead to complications such as intestinal obstruction, severe weakness, or recurrent infections.
