Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?
When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About bones & joints
A midshaft femur fracture is a break that occurs in the middle third of the femoral shaft, the long, straight part of the thighbone between the hip and the knee joints. Because the femur is the strongest bone in the body, a midshaft fracture is almost always the result of high-energy trauma, such as a motor vehicle collision, a fall from a significant height, or a gunshot wound.

Background
Lavender is the youngest child in a family of four siblings. Following the separation of her parents some years ago, she now lives with her paternal grandmother in a two-roomed mud house with an iron sheet roof, together with her siblings. Her grandmother is visually impaired, leaving Lavender’s elder brother—who dropped out of school in Form Two—as the main provider. He works as a casual laborer, earning a modest income to support the family. When well, Lavender is playful and aspires to become a teacher in the future. Lavender was previously in good health until the day she visited her aunt. While there, she climbed a mango tree to pick fruits but unfortunately slipped and fell, landing heavily on the ground. Immediately after the fall, she was unable to stand and complained of severe pain in her thigh. She was rushed to the nearest health facility, where she was assessed and diagnosed with a midshaft femur fracture. She was then referred to Siaya County Referral Hospital for further management. The family learned about Helpster Charity at the referring facility, where they were guided to seek support as they proceeded to the referral hospital.
Medical history
Lavender was brought to the Hospital with complaints of pain in the leg after history of fall. She had suffered a fracture this prompted admission to the ward for proper management. Skin traction was done for her for over a week, thereafter her leg was plastered and back slab applied. While this was done she was administered ceftriaxone, floxapen , flucloxaccilin among other drugs. She responded well to medication and was discharged on orals to recuperate at home. An outpatient clinic was booked for her for the removal of her cast.
Prognosis
An 11-year-old with a midshaft femur fracture generally has a good prognosis with appropriate and timely management. In children, bones heal faster and more effectively due to active growth plates and a strong blood supply. With proper treatment—such as traction, casting, or surgical fixation—the fracture typically heals within 6–12 weeks, followed by gradual return to normal activities. Lavender was brought to the hospital in time where traction was done and later plastered, she is expected to make a full recovery.
