Safwan I., 2

Saffwan is a 2 year old male child currently staying with his parents and siblings in 2 rooms apartment. The father is a petty trader while the mother is a house wife. They find it very difficult to support the family financially, they make use of water from the borehole belonging to everyone in the community, they do not have access to electricity, there is a pit toilet for the whole household. Presenting complain: High grade fever, right neck pain, runny nose for 3 days. Safwan’s illness started 5 days with sudden fever associated with neck swelling with pains which increased in size with each passing day and the fever also progressed to high grade. On examination, a 2-year-old male child, conscious but ill looking, Tachypneic, febrile (39.0) degree Celsius. Nasal discharge, anicteric, acyanosed, palor. Diagnosis of severe Malaria and acute Parotitis was made. The family were in dare need of help, they were told about Helpster Charity in their community because of recent outreach being carried out. They brought the child to the hospital for proper medical evaluation.

On examination, a 2-year-old male child, conscious but ill looking, Tachypneic, febrile (39.0) degree Celsius. Nasal discharge, unicteric, acyanosed, palor. Diagnosis of severe Malaria and acute Parotitis was made. Child was admitted and was managed with injection antimalarial, injection antibiotics and other supportive care until patient was stable. Fever stopped, swelling was gone, no more nasal discharge patient is well and was discharged with some oral medications. He is to return for follow up after 1 week. The family expressed gratitude to Helpster Charity for the medical support.

Management includes prompt antimalarial therapy, antibiotics, analgesics, hydration, and supportive care to prevent complications. On examination, a 2-year-old male child, conscious but ill looking, Tachypneic, febrile (39.0) degree Celsius. Nasal discharge, anicteric, acyanosed, palor. Diagnosis of severe Malaria and Acute Parotitis was made. Management includes prompt antimalarial therapy, antibiotics, analgesics, hydration, and supportive care to prevent complications.
