Gift Y., 9

Gift is a 9-year-old girl, the third of six children, who lives with her parents and siblings. She attends a free government primary school in their community. Her father works as a local security guard while her mother is a housewife, and the family struggles financially. They live in a two-room apartment with a pit toilet, rely on a community borehole for water, and have no access to electricity. She presented with a three-day history of high-grade fever, worse in the evenings, associated with chills, rigors, loss of appetite, joint pains, and body weakness. On examination, she appeared acutely ill, dehydrated, pale, icteric, and febrile with a temperature of 40°C. She was diagnosed with severe malaria. She was evaluated at Wholecare Facility, and the family sought assistance from Helpster Charity to support her treatment.

Gift is a 9-year-old female child who started having high grade fever more in the evenings which has given her sleepless nights over the past 3 days with associated chills and rigors. There loss of appetite, joint pains and body weakness. Examination showed acutely ill looking child, dehydrated, pale, icteric and febrile with temperature of 40 degrees Celsius. Diagnosis Severe Malaria was made. Patient was admitted and placed on injection antimalarials, antipyretics and other supportive care until patient was stable and discharged. She was as well given some drugs for continued medication at home. Patient is come for follow up after 1 week. The family remained grateful to Helpster Charity and the entire team for the medical support.

The patient was managed for severe malaria with appropriate medications and supportive care, showing good clinical response during admission. She is currently stable and has been discharged on medications with plans for follow-up. With adherence to treatment and scheduled review, full recovery is expected. The overall prognosis is favorable.
