Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?
When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About infections
Severe malaria is a critical and life-threatening form of malaria, most commonly caused by Plasmodium falciparum. It presents with high-grade fever, chills, and systemic involvement including severe anemia, jaundice, hypoglycemia, and impaired consciousness. Patients may develop convulsions, prostration, respiratory distress, and hemoglobinuria (“cola-colored urine”). It often affects children and pregnant women more severely due to reduced immunity. Complications include cerebral malaria, acute kidney injury, and multi-organ failure. Diagnosis is confirmed by blood smear microscopy or rapid diagnostic tests.

Background
Emmanuel is a 3-year-old boy, the fifth of five children, who lives with his parents in a small community. His father works as a local security guard while his mother is a housewife. The family struggles financially and Emmanuel is not yet enrolled in school. They live in a two-room apartment with a pit toilet, use borehole water for daily activities, and have no access to electricity. He presented with a five-day history of high-grade fever associated with chills, rigors, loss of appetite, occasional vomiting, and reduced activity. On examination, he appeared acutely ill, dehydrated, pale, and febrile with a temperature of 39.8°C. He was diagnosed with severe malaria. The family could not afford the medical bills and sought assistance from Helpster Charity to support his treatment.
Medical history
Emmanuel is a 3 years old male who started having high grade fever over the past 5 days with associated chills and rigors, loss of appetite and occasional vomiting. The mother observed that he has not been active as expected. Examination showed acutely ill looking child, dehydrated, pale and febrile with temperature of 39.8 degrees Celsius. He was diagnosed with severe malaria. Patient was on admission and treatment commenced with injection antimalarials, antipyretics and other supportive care until patient was stable and discharged. He was as well given some drugs for continued medication at home. Patient is come for follow up after 1 week The family are filled with joy as they extend gratitude to Helpster Charity and the team for sponsoring their medication.
Prognosis

He was diagnosed with severe malaria. Management requires urgent hospitalization, antimalarial therapy such as artemether, supportive care, and close monitoring to prevent mortality.
