Reshma Begum is 35 weeks and 6 days pregnant with her second pregnancy has been diagnosed with a breech presentation, a condition in which the fetus is positioned in the uterus with its bottom or feet pointing downward instead of the usual head-down position. Due to this complication, the fetus may develop fetal distress, umbilical cord prolapse, and birth trauma such as brachial plexus injury and head entrapment, requiring immediate medical intervention to ensure the safety of both mother and baby.

Background
Reshma Begum is a polite and hardworking 23-year-old mother who lives in a camp with her husband, young son, and elderly mother-in-law, struggling to survive on her husband’s small income of 6,000 BDT per month. With such limited earnings, it is difficult for the family to meet daily needs, making proper medical care beyond their reach. Despite her hardship, Reshma remains caring and hopeful, dreaming of a better future for her children. The family learned about Helpster Charity through a beneficiary, which gave them a chance to seek help during this difficult time. Without timely treatment, her breech pregnancy could lead to serious complications during delivery, putting both the mother and unborn baby at risk of life-threatening conditions.
Medical history
Reshma Begum was admitted to New Evercare Hospital on 17.04.2026 at 35 weeks and 6 days of pregnancy with a breech presentation. After a thorough evaluation, she underwent a successful Lower Uterine Caesarean Section (LUCS) on the same day, performed by gynecological surgeon Dr. Nahid Akter under spinal anesthesia administered by anesthetist Dr. Anik. Following the operation, she received appropriate medical treatment, continuous monitoring, and attentive nursing care, which ensured a smooth recovery for both mother and baby. As her condition remained stable and the baby was healthy, she was discharged in a safe and satisfactory condition on 20.04.2026.
Prognosis
The recommended treatment for Reshma is LUCS under SAB, which is the safest option to deliver the baby promptly and prevent further complications. With timely surgery, the baby is expected to recover well and lead a healthy life. However, if the delivery is delayed or left untreated, the baby may suffer from oxygen deprivation, leading to permanent brain damage or even death, and the mother may also face life-threatening infections or complications.
