Jahanara Akter has been suffering from a fever for the past seven days. The fever starts low and gradually rises during the day, accompanied by an abdominal rash. She is also experiencing vomiting, anorexia, loose stools for the past two days, and fatigue. She has been diagnosed with typhoid fever. Typhoid fever is a life-threatening systemic infection caused by Salmonella Typhi bacteria, usually spread through contaminated food or water. Complications of typhoid fever include intestinal perforation, severe gastrointestinal bleeding, meningitis, myocarditis, pneumonia, kidney failure, and delirium.

Background
Jahanara Akter is a calm and gentle 8-year-old girl who dreams of becoming a teacher, but her life is shaped by hardship as she lives with her parents and siblings in a fragile camp house. Her father, Jahid Gaji, earns only 6,000 BDT per month as a hawker, which is not enough to support the five-member family or cover her medical expenses. As her fever continued for days with vomiting, weakness, and other symptoms, her condition worsened, leaving her family deeply worried. Without proper and timely treatment, typhoid fever can become severe and life-threatening, affecting her overall health and future. After learning about Helpster Charity through their camp leader, her family now hopes to save their beloved daughter and see her return to her normal life.
Medical history
Jahanara Akter was admitted on 15.03.2026 with a diagnosis of typhoid fever. Upon admission, she was carefully assessed and started on appropriate intravenous antibiotics, along with fluid therapy to correct dehydration. Supportive care, including proper nutrition, antipyretics for fever control, and close monitoring of vital signs, was provided throughout her hospital stay. Under continuous medical supervision and dedicated nursing care, her condition gradually improved. Her fever subsided, her appetite returned, and her overall strength increased. Regular monitoring ensured that no complications developed during the course of treatment. Due to timely intervention, effective medical management, and proper nursing care, Jahanara made a successful recovery. She was discharged on 19.03.2026 in a stable and secure condition.
Prognosis
According to the doctors, Jahanara requires immediate treatment with parenteral (injectable) antibiotics along with supportive care to control the infection and stabilize her condition. With proper and timely treatment, she is expected to recover fully, regain her strength, and return to her normal life, including her studies and daily activities. This treatment will help clear the infection and prevent further complications. However, if left untreated, typhoid fever can become severe, leading to dehydration, intestinal complications, and damage to vital organs. In serious cases, it may become life-threatening and greatly affect her future health and well-being.
