Luckyson is an 11-year-old boy in Grade 6 at a local village primary school. He is the third-born in a family of nine children, living with both parents in a household of eleven. Due to the large family size, resources are extremely limited, and meeting basic needs is a daily struggle. His mother is the sole provider, earning about KSh 2,000 per month from selling bananas, which is insufficient for food, clothing, education, and healthcare. His father, previously a boda boda rider, became paralyzed on the left side after a serious accident and is unable to work, leaving the burden entirely on the mother. The family lives in a small two-room mud house without electricity. Luckyson was brought to the hospital after four days of chest congestion, fast breathing, headache, chest pain, persistent cough, and runny nose. His mother initially managed him at home with painkillers, but his condition worsened. At the hospital, he was diagnosed with severe pneumonia, requiring urgent care. Due to financial constraints, the hospital referred the family to Helpster Charity, which stepped in to support his treatment.

Luckson with severe pneumonia , On admission, doctors stabilized his breathing and oxygen levels, often giving supplemental oxygen through a mask or nasal tubes. If breathing is very difficult, more advanced support such as continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) or even mechanical ventilation may be needed. Intravenous (IV) antibiotics are started immediately to fight the infection, especially if a bacterial cause is suspected. Fluids are carefully managed to prevent dehydration while avoiding fluid overload in the lungs, and fever or pain is controlled with appropriate medications. Doctors also monitor vital signs closely, including temperature, heart rate, oxygen saturation, and respiratory rate, to track his progress. As treatment continues, Luckson’s condition would ideally begin to improve within a few days, with reduced fever, easier breathing, and better oxygen levels. He may gradually transition from IV antibiotics to oral medication and from oxygen support to breathing on his own.

Luckyson presented with features of severe pneumonia, including chest congestion, rapid breathing, chest pain, persistent cough, and general weakness. Given the progression of symptoms over several days and his clinical condition at presentation, this was a serious illness requiring immediate admission and intervention. He was promptly started on intravenous antibiotics and supportive care, including monitoring of vital signs and respiratory status. Prognosis is good
