Ismail has been diagnosed with an acute-on-chronic fracture of the left radius and ulna, meaning a previous untreated fracture has been worsened by a new injury. The bones have not healed properly, leading to delayed union, ongoing pain, swelling, and visible deformity of the forearm. This condition has significantly limited his ability to move his wrist and elbow and perform daily activities. Urgent medical intervention is required to correct the bone alignment and restore normal function.

Background
Md. Ismail, a 12-year-old school-going boy, lives with his parents and five younger siblings in a poor household where his father is the only earner with a monthly income of just 7,000 BDT and no permanent home, making it impossible to afford proper medical care. Despite these hardships, Ismail is a bright, caring, and determined child who dreams of becoming a doctor and supporting his family. After suffering a serious fracture in his left arm and later re-injuring it, his condition has worsened with severe pain, swelling, and deformity, requiring urgent surgery. However, due to financial constraints, his family is unable to bear the treatment cost. They learned about Helpster Charity through volunteer Mohammad Abu Sayeed and sought help, as without timely treatment, his arm may heal improperly, leading to permanent disability and affecting his future.
Prognosis
Doctors recommend Open Reduction and Internal Fixation (ORIF) to realign Ismail’s fractured radius and ulna and secure them with plates and screws. With this surgery, he has a strong chance of proper healing, pain relief, and restoration of normal arm movement, allowing him to return to daily activities without long-term disability. With proper follow-up care, his strength and function can gradually improve. However, if left untreated, the bones may heal in a wrong position, leading to permanent deformity, chronic pain, and loss of arm function. This could severely affect his ability to study, work, and live independently in the future.
